It is well known in the world of sourcing and e-commerce that Alibaba is a major player...if not THE major player. Being based in China, the world’s leading manufacturing hub, Alibaba gives their customers access to hundreds of millions of products in over 40 different major categories and boasts over 8 million active sellers on their platform. But they aren’t the only game in town. There are a variety of other places to turn to that could be just as advantageous...possibly more so. Here are some alternatives:

Another huge player in the e-commerce space is Global Sources. They aren’t as large as Alibaba but they are a great 2nd option. They are an extensive B2B (Business to business) platform that connects quality buyers and suppliers both online and offline. The key word here is QUALITY. Many of the products and suppliers are of better overall quality than you will find on the aforementioned behemoth. The great thing is that many sellers in various marketplaces (like Amazon, Walmart, and Ebay) are not as familiar with Global Sources so you may have less competition. They are particularly great for fashion accessories and electronics among other things. Definitely worth a look.

These guys are a great source for suppliers in the USA. Many sellers are sourcing from China, India, or Taiwan but there are some products that can be found here that are of higher caliber and quality (i.e. printed materials and clothing). An added bonus: not having to deal with extended shipping times and the costs that are associated. Trade war tariffs on Chinese goods?...that won’t affect you one bit. Also, many customers still love to see the ‘MADE in USA’ label and that can give you an edge over your competitors sourcing overseas.
Trade Shows
There are many websites that you can visit for your sourcing needs but actually, physically going to trade shows to meet with suppliers face to face can be super helpful. One of the largest and most comprehensive trade shows in the U.S. is ASD Market Week held in Las Vegas. There are nearly 3,000 vendors and over a million different products to check out. Often sellers can make great partnerships and find products with excellent profit margins. This is a great way to set your business apart from the competition.
